This week we bring you the gorgeous and incredibly sweet Cherry!!

Cherry is a beautiful black galga that has completely stolen the hearts of our volunteers and her foster family. She came to us from Extremadura, her galguero wanted us to take her because he no longer wanted her for breeding or hunting.

We know Cherry has had a tough life, as a dog used purely for hunting or breeding she was never shown any affection or considered to be anything more than her owner’s property. Due to this treatment she was very afraid when she first came to our shelter. She stayed in her kennel for days and would cower away from anyone that so much as looked at her.

However, as the days went past, she realised no-one was going to hurt her and she didn’t have to scramble for scraps of food anymore. Her confidence grew and she started to come outside and explore her surroundings. The shelter is a busy place with lot of people and dogs coming and going and we decided that Cherry needed a calmer environment to help her overcome her fears.

Cherry went into a loving and caring foster home and we are so pleased to report that her progress has been outstanding!! Her foster family can hardly believe she is the same galga. She is loving, sweet and has adapted extremely well to living in a house. She adores her foster family and enjoys being around them, she is also quite happy to chill by herself when they are away, she shows no separation anxiety. Cherry walks well on the lead and is completely house trained. We are always amazed at the changes these amazing dogs can make once they feel safe within their environment.

Cherry’s foster family have done an amazing job but now what Cherry really needs is her forever home. She is a sweet and affectionate galga that will capture your heart once you lo into those big brown eyes of hers. She gets on well with the other dogs at her foster home and is even suitable for living in a house with cats. What more could you ask for in a new four legged companion??

The progress Cherry has made is fantastic, she still has some ways to go and is a little fearful of unfamiliar noises when out and about but we know that wont hold her back for long. All she needs is a lot of love and patience and in return she will be the most loving and treasured member of your family.
