Our dog of the week is Azahar! Literally translated her name means ‘orange blossom’ in Spanish, we call her this because she is just so sweet and beautiful and we can’t get enough of her!
Azahar came from a galguero in Seville, she was being kept in terrible conditions and would likely have faced a terrible fate once he decided he no longer had a use for her if we had not been able to intervene. She was being used purely as a hunting and breeding tool and once her owner no longer needed her she was dispensable.
Azahar is embracing her chance at a new life, she is a sweet galga that needs some time to get to know you before trusting you are no there to harm her. She is a little shy at first but once she knows you’re not going to harm her she creeps closer for a cuddle.
We don’t know much about her past but her many scars tell a story of abuse and neglect. Azahar is putting all that behind her and enjoying a life where she is free to enjoy her day in a loving and safe environment. Azahar has a calm character and she gets along with the other dogs at the shelter, she is not dominant at all.
Azahar doesn’t need any specialised care, only a home to call her own and a family that will love and care for her for the rest of her life. She has seen the bad side of animal treatment but now it’s time for her to be showered in love and affection.
